Tanzania, including the semi-autonomous island of Zanzibar, offers citizenship to its diaspora members and their descendants. Tanzania is a member of the East African Community (EAC), which provides free movement across Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Zanzibar has a distinct Swahili-Arab culture and is a significant site for the East African diaspora. Tanzania's diaspora citizenship program is administered by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Tanzania uses a residence-based tax system. Tanzanian citizens who do not reside in Tanzania are generally not subject to Tanzanian income tax on foreign-source income. Tanzania has tax treaties with several countries.
